Sheikh Saadi was a well known poet in the world. He lived in Iran and used to lead a very simple life. Once the king of Iran invited him to his court. Sheikh Saadi started for the court. On the way he took shelter in a nobleman's house for a night. His dress was simple as........................................

Sheikh Saadi was a well known poet in the world. He lived in Iran and used to lead a very simple life. Once the king of Iran invited him to his court. Sheikh Saadi started for the court. On the way he took shelter in a nobleman's house for a night. His dress was simple as usual. The nobleman and his servants took him for an ordinary man because of his simple dress. They served him very simple food and did not care for his comfort at all. Saadi understood the matter but did not disclose his real identity. He passed the night and left the house in the morning. He started for the court and reached there. He stayed there for several days. On his way back home, he again took shelter in that nobleman's house. But this time he put on a rich dress very purposively. So, the nobleman and his servants received him very cordially and with great honour. He was served very rich food also. But he did a very strange thing this time to teach the nobleman a good lesson. He put all the rich foods in his pocket without eating. The nobleman and his servants got astonished at this behaviour of the great poet. They asked him the reason of that behaviour. Saadi simply replied that his rich dress deserved that rich food, not Sheikh Saadi. The nobleman understood his fault and got ashamed of his previous behaviour towards him.

বাংলা অর্থঃ শেখ সাদী বিশ্বের একজন পরিচিত কবি ছিলেন।  তিনি ইরানে থাকতেন এবং খুব সাধারণ জীবনযাপন করতেন।  একবার ইরানের রাজা তাকে তার দরবারে আমন্ত্রণ জানান।  দরবারে শেখ সাদী শুরু করেন।  পথে তিনি এক রাত্রির জন্য এক সম্ভ্রান্তের বাড়িতে আশ্রয় নেন।  তার পোশাক ছিল বরাবরের মতোই সাদামাটা।  সাদামাটা পোশাকের কারণে অভিজাত ও তার চাকরেরা তাকে একজন সাধারণ মানুষ হিসেবে গ্রহণ করেছিল।  তারা তাকে খুব সাধারণ খাবার পরিবেশন করেছিল এবং তার আরামের জন্য মোটেও যত্ন নেয়নি।  সাদি বিষয়টি বুঝতে পারলেও তার আসল পরিচয় প্রকাশ করেননি।  রাত পেরিয়ে সকালে বাড়ি থেকে বের হন।  তিনি আদালতের উদ্দেশ্যে যাত্রা শুরু করেন এবং সেখানে পৌঁছান।  সেখানে কয়েকদিন অবস্থান করেন।  বাড়ি ফেরার পথে তিনি আবার সেই সম্ভ্রান্তের বাড়িতে আশ্রয় নেন।  তবে এবার তিনি খুব উদ্দেশ্যমূলকভাবে একটি সমৃদ্ধ পোশাক পরলেন।  সুতরাং, সম্ভ্রান্ত ব্যক্তি এবং তার চাকরগণ তাকে অত্যন্ত আন্তরিকভাবে এবং অত্যন্ত সম্মানের সাথে গ্রহণ করেছিলেন।  তাকে খুব সমৃদ্ধ খাবারও পরিবেশন করা হয়েছিল।  কিন্তু সে এবার খুব অদ্ভুত একটা কাজ করলো সেই অভিজাতকে ভালো শিক্ষা দিতে।  না খেয়েই পকেটে ভরপুর সব খাবার রেখে দেন।  মহান কবির এই আচরণে সম্ভ্রান্ত ব্যক্তি ও তার চাকরগণ বিস্মিত হলেন। তারা তাকে সেই আচরণের কারণ জিজ্ঞেস করল।  সাদি সহজভাবে উত্তর দিয়েছিলেন যে তার সমৃদ্ধ পোশাকটি সেই সমৃদ্ধ খাবারের যোগ্য, শেখ সাদির নয়।  সম্ভ্রান্ত ব্যক্তি তার দোষ বুঝতে পেরে তার প্রতি তার আগের আচরণে লজ্জিত হলেন।
