The Clever Astrologer 

Once upon a time there lived a king in a province of India. He was fond of knowing his future. A good astrologer happened to pass his capital. He invited him to his palace. After the entertainment the king wanted to learn his future from the astrologer. He told him something which was unpleasant to the king. So, he got extremely angry. He condemned him to death saying," People like you should live no longer to spoil the peace of the world.' Another thought came to the mind of the king before executing the death sentence of the astrologer. He just asked the astrologer," How long would you live?" The astrologer with his ready wit said," The stars declare that I will die only a week before your majesty. So, good-bye. I will wait to receive you where you are sending me." Hearing this the king got seriously afraid and turned pale. He shouted, "Drive this wretch away, let him not come here again." Thus the astrologer saved his life by his ready wit and cleverness.

বাংলা অর্থঃ একদা ভারতের এক প্রদেশে এক রাজা বাস করতেন।  তিনি তার ভবিষ্যত জানতে আগ্রহী ছিলেন।  একজন ভালো জ্যোতিষী তার পুঁজি পাড়ি দিলেন।  তিনি তাকে তার প্রাসাদে আমন্ত্রণ জানান।  বিনোদনের পর রাজা জ্যোতিষীর কাছে তার ভবিষ্যৎ জানতে চাইলেন।  তিনি তাকে এমন কিছু বললেন যা রাজার কাছে অপ্রীতিকর ছিল।  তাই তিনি প্রচন্ড রেগে গেলেন।  তিনি তাকে মৃত্যুদণ্ডের নিন্দা জানিয়ে বলেন, 'তোমার মতো মানুষের আর পৃথিবীর শান্তি নষ্ট করার জন্য বেঁচে থাকা উচিত নয়।'  জ্যোতিষীর মৃত্যুদণ্ড কার্যকর করার আগে রাজার মাথায় আরেকটি চিন্তা এসেছিল। তিনি জ্যোতিষীকে শুধু জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, "তুমি কতদিন বাঁচবে?" জ্যোতিষী তার প্রস্তুত বুদ্ধি দিয়ে বললেন, "নক্ষত্ররা ঘোষণা করে যে আমি কেবল একটি মৃত্যুবরণ করব।  তোমার মহিমার এক সপ্তাহ আগে।  তাই বিদায়.  আপনি আমাকে যেখানে পাঠাচ্ছেন সেখানে আমি আপনাকে গ্রহণ করার জন্য অপেক্ষা করব।” এই কথা শুনে রাজা গুরুতর ভয় পেয়ে ফ্যাকাশে হয়ে গেলেন। তিনি চিৎকার করে বললেন, “এই হতভাগাকে তাড়িয়ে দাও, সে যেন আর এখানে না আসে।” এইভাবে প্রস্তুত হয়ে জ্যোতিষী তার জীবন রক্ষা করলেন।  বুদ্ধি এবং চতুরতা ।
